The Fishing

The La Poile’s ideal fishing conditions are in part a result of the remote landscape the Salmon Hole Lodge calls home, and the absence of competing outfitting camps on the river.

From mid-June to late July, angling for Atlantic Salmon will excite seasoned fisherman and thrill novices. They’re not called the king of freshwater sportfish for nothing!

From mid-July through August, wild sea-run brook trout navigate the La Poile from the Atlantic, and are eager for a fight.

Fishing for salmon or trout, you’re sure to enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, and breath in the solitude of the La Poile River valley.

The Guides

Anglers who aren’t residents of Newfoundland require the services of a professional guide, at a ratio of no more than two anglers per guide.

For this reason, the Salmon Hole Lodge works with the best fishing guides in the province. Seasoned professionals who know the La Poile inside and out.

When not finding fish, our guides will transport you and your gear from boat to land transportation, and between the upper and lower camps.

In addition to our three full-time guides, we have a full-time cook ready to prepare three meals daily, with a distinctive, home-cooked, Newfoundland flair!
